Yukata Girls

So, Lets talk Yukata! 浴衣

A Yukata is a thin summer kimono that is easily tied by yourself and worn during the hot summer months where as a proper kimono requires at least one other person to tie it and several pieces fitting together and is very tight and heavy and often reserved for special occasions :

here is Helen dressed in a traditional antique Maiko (Geisha in training) kimono with full hair and makeup;

See….. ridiculous!

Hehe!

However, the summer kimono, or Yukata is easy to tie yourself.

I won’t be able to help you on the day of the wedding, so if you would like to wear one of my Yukata (or your own if you have one!!!) – (*note… that statement might *seem* ridiculous, but actually a good many of my wedding guests DO have their own!.....Because I bought them for them!) then you'd be very welcome. I would dearly love to see as many people as possible in Yukata - if only for the ceremony itself (you can tie it over your clothes or get changed after the wedding ceremony).

So – lets learn to tie!

You will need;

1 Yukata

At least 2 x material ties (long strips of material that wrap around you like a dressing gown tie are what you’re aiming for – not bulky rope or big and fluffy though!)

An obi / or a “cheaty obi”

Suitable clothing for underneath the yukata. (if you’re going to wear an evening dress and tie your Yukata over the top of it – make sure you cannot see the dress under the Yukata, if not – make sure your under garments are not too bright as they may show through the fabric).

Here is a video I have made on how to tie the Yukata;
